The woman is created; marriage begins

God caused Adam to sleep, formed the woman from his side, and brought her to him. Adam received her as bone of his bones and flesh of his flesh, establishing the one-flesh union of husband and wife (Genesis 2:21-25).

📖 Genesis 2:21–23

21So the LORD God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep, and while he slept, He took one of the man’s ribs and closed up the area with flesh. 22And from the rib that the LORD God had taken from the man, He made a woman and brought her to him. 23And the man said: “This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called ‘woman,’ for out of man she was taken.”

Quotation

One flesh in Genesis and Ephesians

Paul quotes the words spoken at the first marriage in Eden, then says that the mystery they carry is profound and that he is speaking about Christ and the church.

Ephesians 5:31–32

“For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.” This mystery is profound, but I am speaking about Christ and the church.

Genesis 2:24 says that a man will leave his father and mother, be united to his wife, and become one flesh. Ephesians 5:31 quotes the sentence and verse 32 speaks of Christ and the church.
