God commissions Noah to build the ark

Seeing the earth filled with violence, God told Noah he would bring a flood, and commanded him to build an ark of gopher wood to preserve his household and pairs of every living creature (Genesis 6:13-22). Scripture places the command between Noah's 500th year (Genesis 5:32) and the Flood.

9This is the account of Noah. Noah was a righteous man, blameless in his generation; Noah walked with God. 10And Noah had three sons: Shem, Ham, and Japheth. 11Now the earth was corrupt in the sight of God, and full of violence.
