Languages are confused; the people are scattered from Babel
The LORD confused the people's language and scattered them over the face of the earth, so they stopped building the city. It was called Babel because there the LORD confused the language of the whole earth (Genesis 11:7-9). Scripture ties the division to Peleg's days (Genesis 10:25); Answers in Genesis dates Babel to 2242 BC.
