After victory over the king of Arad, Israel again spoke against God and Moses, and venomous snakes struck the camp. At God's command Moses made a bronze serpent; anyone who looked at it after being bitten lived (Numbers 21:1-9).
Fortieth year, after Aaron's death
1When the Canaanite king of Arad, who lived in the Negev, heard that Israel was coming along the road to Atharim, he attacked Israel and captured some prisoners. 2So Israel made a vow to the LORD: “If You will deliver this people into our hands, we will devote their cities to destruction.” 3And the LORD heard Israel’s plea and delivered up the Canaanites. Israel devoted them and their cities to destruction; so they named the place Hormah.
Paul recalls the Israelites who tested Christ and were killed by snakes.
We should not test Christ, as some of them did, and were killed by snakes.
Numbers 21 records that Israel spoke against God and Moses, and the LORD sent venomous snakes among them. First Corinthians 10:9 warns against testing Christ as they did and says they were killed by snakes.
