Daniel taken to Babylon; the first deportation

In Jehoiakim's third year Nebuchadnezzar came against Jerusalem, and Daniel and his companions were carried to Babylon and trained in the king's court (Daniel 1:1-6). This event is dated to 607 BC, the start of the seventy-year captivity reckoning.

1In the third year of the reign of Jehoiakim king of Judah, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came to Jerusalem and besieged it. 2And the Lord delivered into his hand Jehoiakim king of Judah, along with some of the articles from the house of God.
