Jesus asks how the Christ is David's Lord

Jesus asked the Pharisees how the Christ could be merely David's son when David, speaking by the Spirit, called Him Lord. No one could answer Him, and from that day no one dared question Him further (Matthew 22:41-46).

Jesus quotes Psalm 110:1 when asking how the Christ can be David's son while David himself calls Him Lord.

A Psalm of David. The LORD said to my Lord: “Sit at My right hand until I make Your enemies a footstool for Your feet.”

Psalm 110:1 records David saying that the LORD spoke to his Lord and invited Him to sit at His right hand; Luke 20:41-44 quotes the verse and draws attention to David's use of the title Lord.
