Moses commanded Israel to write the law on plastered stones and build an altar on Mount Ebal after crossing the Jordan. Six tribes were appointed for blessing on Gerizim and six for the covenant curses (Deuteronomy 27:1-26).
1Then Moses and the elders of Israel commanded the people: “Keep all the commandments I am giving you today. 2And on the day you cross the Jordan into the land that the LORD your God is giving you, set up large stones and coat them with plaster. 3Write on them all the words of this law when you have crossed over to enter the land that the LORD your God is giving you, a land flowing with milk and honey, just as the LORD, the God of your fathers, has promised you.
Paul quotes the curse spoken in Deuteronomy for anyone who does not keep all the words of the law.
All who rely on works of the law are under a curse. For it is written: “Cursed is everyone who does not continue to do everything written in the Book of the Law.”
Deuteronomy 27:26 places under a curse the person who does not put the law into practice. Galatians 3:10 introduces the same warning with, "For it is written."
