Elijah's appeal and God's reply
Paul recalls Elijah's appeal against Israel and God's reply that seven thousand had not bowed to Baal.
God did not reject His people, whom He foreknew. Do you not know what the Scripture says about Elijah, how he appealed to God against Israel: “Lord, they have killed Your prophets and torn down Your altars. I am the only one left, and they are seeking my life as well”? And what was the divine reply to him? “I have reserved for Myself seven thousand men who have not bowed the knee to Baal.”
First Kings 19:10 and 19:14 record Elijah's words about the prophets being killed, the altars being torn down, and his life being sought. First Kings 19:18 records God's reply about seven thousand in Israel. Romans 11:2-4 quotes the appeal and the reply.
