Israel asks Samuel for a king
When Samuel grew old, his sons took bribes and perverted justice. Israel's elders asked for a king like the surrounding nations; the LORD told Samuel that the people had rejected Him as king, and Samuel warned them of royal demands (1 Samuel 8:1-22).
