On the night he was betrayed Jesus took bread and the cup: this is my body; this cup is the new covenant in my blood (Luke 22:19-20). Passion week, AD 33.

Explicit fulfillment

Numbered with the transgressors

Before leaving for the Mount of Olives, Jesus quoted Isaiah's words about being numbered with transgressors and said that the Scripture must be fulfilled in Him.

Isaiah 53:12

Therefore I will allot Him a portion with the great, and He will divide the spoils with the strong, because He has poured out His life unto death, and He was numbered with the transgressors. Yet He bore the sin of many and made intercession for the transgressors.

Isaiah 53:12 says that the Servant was numbered with the transgressors; Luke 22:37 quotes the line, and Jesus says that it must be fulfilled in Him and that what is written about Him is reaching its fulfillment.

The promised new covenant in Hebrews

Hebrews quotes Jeremiah's promise of a new covenant while explaining the better covenant that Jesus mediates.

Jeremiah 31:31–33

Behold, the days are coming, declares the LORD, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah. It will not be like the covenant I made with their fathers when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt— a covenant they broke, though I was a husband to them,” declares the LORD. “But this is the covenant I will make with the house of Israel after those days, declares the LORD. I will put My law in their minds and inscribe it on their hearts. And I will be their God, and they will be My people.

Jeremiah 31:31-34 promises a new covenant in which God's law is written on the heart and sins are remembered no more; Hebrews 8:8-12 quotes that promise after identifying Jesus as the mediator of a better covenant.
