Nehemiah confronts exploitation of the poor
Families cried out over hunger, mortgaged fields, taxes, debt, and children sold into slavery. Nehemiah rebuked the nobles and officials, required them to return property and interest, and pointed to his own refusal of the governor's food allowance (Nehemiah 5:1-19).
