The Gentiles rejoice at Pisidian Antioch

When opposition contradicted Paul's message, Paul and Barnabas turned to the Gentiles. The Gentiles rejoiced and honored the word of the Lord, while persecution drove the missionaries toward Iconium (Acts 13:44-52).

44On the following Sabbath, nearly the whole city gathered to hear the word of the Lord. 45But when the Jews saw the crowds, they were filled with jealousy, and they blasphemously contradicted what Paul was saying. 46Then Paul and Barnabas answered them boldly: “It was necessary to speak the word of God to you first. But since you reject it and do not consider yourselves worthy of eternal life, we now turn to the Gentiles.

A light for the nations

When Paul and Barnabas turn to the Gentiles at Pisidian Antioch, they quote Isaiah's words about bringing salvation to the ends of the earth and say that the Lord has commanded them.

Isaiah 49:6

He says: “It is not enough for You to be My Servant, to raise up the tribes of Jacob, and to restore the protected ones of Israel. I will also make You a light for the nations, to bring My salvation to the ends of the earth.”

Isaiah 49:6 speaks of God's Servant as a light for the nations who brings salvation to the ends of the earth; Acts 13:46-47 quotes those words as Paul and Barnabas explain their mission to the Gentiles.
