Jesus teaches prayer and the Lord's Prayer

Jesus rejected prayer performed for public notice and empty repetition. He taught His disciples to address their Father, seek His kingdom and will, ask for daily provision and forgiveness, and depend on Him for deliverance (Matthew 6:5-15).

5And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites. For they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. Truly I tell you, they already have their full reward. 6But when you pray, go into your inner room, shut your door, and pray to your Father, who is unseen. And your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. 7And when you pray, do not babble on like pagans, for they think that by their many words they will be heard.

Agur's prayer and daily bread

Proverbs 30:7-9 records the book's only prayer. Agur asked God for the food he needed without poverty or riches. Jesus later taught His disciples to ask their Father for daily bread.

Proverbs 30:7–9

Two things I ask of You— do not refuse me before I die: Keep falsehood and deceitful words far from me. Give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with the bread that is my portion. Otherwise, I may have too much and deny You, saying, ‘Who is the LORD?’ Or I may become poor and steal, profaning the name of my God.

Agur asked for the bread that was his portion and explained the dangers of both abundance and poverty. In Matthew 6:9-13, Jesus taught His disciples to ask their Father for daily bread and deliverance from temptation.
