Seven chosen to serve the growing church

When Grecian Jewish widows were being overlooked in the daily distribution, the disciples chose seven men full of the Spirit and wisdom, including Stephen and Philip. The apostles prayed and laid hands on them, and the word of God continued to spread (Acts 6:1-7).
