The parable of the workers in the vineyard

Jesus compared the kingdom of heaven to a landowner who hired workers throughout the day and generously paid each one the same wage. When the first workers complained, the landowner defended both his fairness and generosity, and Jesus said that the last will be first and the first last (Matthew 20:1-16).
